I'm so glad I decided to pick up HAMMERED, because Lindsay Buroker once again knocked it out of the park with this sequel series. The new protagonist, a half-dwarf named Kari, totally stole my heart - her wit and sass had me laughing out loud more times than I can count. And let's not forget Eirlys, the elf assassin who's got some serious skills and even more serious attitude. Their enemies-to-lovers dynamic is exactly what I crave in a romance: all the tension and banter without sacrificing the emotional payoff.
What really sets HAMMERED apart, though, is Lindsay Buroker's signature blend of humor, action, and heart. The story's got plenty of twists and turns to keep you on your toes, but it's the characters' relationships that truly make this series shine. Kari and Eirlys's slow-burn romance is everything I love about the enemies-to-lovers trope - all the snarky comebacks, awkward misunderstandings, and finally, sweet triumphs. And let me tell you, Lindsay Buroker's writing has got some serious magic to it; her world-building is top-notch, and she knows just how to pace a scene for maximum impact. Overall, HAMMERED was an absolute delight - I couldn't put it down!
Original Micro-Review: "A sequel series to my favorite DEATH BEFORE DRAGONS, starring a new witty half-dwarf and an elf assassin. I love enemies-to-lovers trope, snarky heroines, and Lindsay herself. Just a great story. ⭐⭐⭐⭐"
