I'm still reeling from the emotional rollercoaster that is ASHES OF MAN by Christopher Ruocchio. If you thought the previous installments were brutal, buckle up because this one takes it to a whole new level. Hadrian's journey has been a long and arduous one, and the scars he's accumulated are starting to show - literally. The horrors he's faced have left me wondering how much more of this poor guy can take before he breaks. And honestly, I'm not sure I'd want him to become any less broken anytime soon because Ruocchio is masterfully weaving a tale that's equal parts heartbreaking and infuriating.
The real genius here is how Ruocchio can balance the sheer brutality with moments of beauty and tenderness. It's a delicate dance, but he executes it flawlessly, leaving me breathless and eager for more. And the best part? We're not even halfway through the series yet - Book 6 is dropping in April, and I'm already counting down the days until I can get my hands on it. If you're a fan of Robin Hobb's ability to gut-punch you with her characters' struggles, then Ruocchio is definitely an author worth keeping an eye on. Trust me when I say that ASHES OF MAN will leave you gasping for air and begging for more.
Original Micro-Review: "Ruocchio is vying for a close second place to Robin Hobb for exemplifying the phrase "kill your darlings." The horrors that Hadrian has been through is devastating. Book 6 in April!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"
