Dan Simmons' ENDYMION is the perfect blend of action-packed sci-fi and pulse-pounding adventure. I mean, who wouldn't want to fast forward a few hundred years and see what's left of the civilization from books 1 & 2? It's like getting to play with all the toys in a futuristic toy box - you know, if those toys were laser guns, alien species, and ancient ruins just begging to be explored. The characters are top-notch, too - Ritter's got some serious skills, and Althaeus is just so... well, I won't spoil it for you, but let's just say I loved watching him navigate this crazy new world.
The real standout here is the sheer sense of scope and scale. Simmons doesn't hold back when it comes to describing the ruins of the old civilization - it's like stepping into a post-apocalyptic wasteland (albeit with way cooler tech). And then you've got the action scenes, which are just... wow. I was on the edge of my seat more than once as our heroes dodged blasters and fought off alien hordes. Seriously, if you're looking for a rip-roaring adventure that's gonna keep you up all night turning pages, ENDYMION is the book for you.
Original Micro-Review: "Fast forward a few hundred years and the galaxy has CHANGED, MAN, CHANGED. This is a rip-roaring adventure through the ruins of the civilization from Books 1 & 2. Great characters, great action. Loved it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"
