// EXPANDED CRITIQUE
I devoured A Haunt for Jackals in one sitting, completely swept up in the gritty world-building and kickass characters that J.L. Odom so masterfully crafted. As a fan of military fantasy, I was thrilled to find a story that not only delivered on action and adventure but also took the time to develop its cast into people you genuinely care about. From the battle-hardened veterans to the fresh-faced recruits, every character had a clear motivation and backstory that made their struggles feel authentic and relatable.
What really impressed me, though, was how Odom wove together the different threads of the story – from the politics of the rival factions vying for power to the personal demons driving the characters' actions. It's no wonder I went straight to book two without hesitation; I needed to know what happened next!
Original Micro-Review: "Went straight to book 2 and it did not disappoint! Great military fantasy with characters you actually care about. Looking forward to book 3! ⭐⭐⭐⭐"
