// EXPANDED CRITIQUE
I went into Wind and Truth with high expectations, considering it's from the same author who brought me the world of Mistborn. Unfortunately, it feels like Brandon Sanderson was still figuring out his story as I turned those 400+ pages. There are flashes of brilliance - a fascinating magic system, some intriguing characters - but they get lost in a plot that struggles to find its footing. It's like watching a talented musician hit all the right notes, but with a guitar that's slightly out of tune.
I think Sanderson was trying to do too much at once, which ultimately watered down the impact of his ideas. The world-building is rich and detailed, but it feels like we're jumping around too many places without really exploring any of them deeply. And don't even get me started on the pacing - some parts feel rushed, while others drag along slower than a summer day at the lake. Still, there's enough potential here to make me curious about where Sanderson might take this series next. Maybe he'll find his groove and turn Wind and Truth into something truly special. For now, though, it feels like we're stuck in neutral.
Original Micro-Review: "There’s a solid 400 page book in here somewhere. ⭐"
