I've been a huge fan of Mark Lawrence's series so far - the world-building is top-notch and the characters are all so well-developed. So, when I finally got my hands on THE BOOK THAT HELD HER HEART, I was practically vibrating with excitement to see how everything would wrap up. And don't get me wrong, it's definitely a worth-reading conclusion... but unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to my expectations.
I think what disappointed me most was the lack of a truly epic or unexpected finale. Don't get me wrong, there are some great moments and emotional payoffs throughout, but overall I felt like everything played out pretty much as expected. And that's a bit of a bummer, because I had been hoping for something that would really blow my mind (or at least leave me feeling pleasantly surprised). Instead, it was just sort of... nice. Which is definitely not a bad thing, per se - but when you've built up your hopes and anticipation like this, it's hard not to feel a little let down when things don't quite meet those expectations.
Original Micro-Review: "I really enjoyed the first two books, so was super excited for the ending. I enjoyed it, it's worth reading, but the ending wasn't very satisfying to me. Kind of a bummer. I wanted something a bit different than what we got. ⭐⭐⭐"
