// EXPANDED CRITIQUE

I'm still bummed about ditching SPEAR CUTS THROUGH WATER by Simon Jiminez - it had all the makings of an epic read, but unfortunately, it just wasn't my cup of tea. The lack of chapter breaks and sudden shifts in perspective left me feeling disoriented and struggled to connect with the story on any meaningful level. I mean, I'm not opposed to experimental storytelling by any means, but this one just didn't work for me. It's a shame, too, because I'd heard great things about Jiminez's writing style and was really looking forward to diving in. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mindset when I started reading it - whatever the case, life is indeed too short not to have fun with my reading time. I'm definitely open to giving Jimenez another try in the future, but for now, I'll stick to books that don't leave me feeling like I'm stuck in a whirlwind trying to keep up.

Original Micro-Review: "Got 15% of the way through and DNF'd. Not my jam. Too hard to follow, with no chapter breaks, rapidly shifting POVs, a disjointed narrative. Bummer, because I heard good things, but life's too short not to have fun reading. "
