Book Cover: GODS OF THE WYRDWOOD

// EXPANDED CRITIQUE

I mean, where do I even start with Gods of the Wyrdwood? It's one of those books that's hard to pin down because it's just so... weirdly wonderful. On paper, you've got a forester with magic, a chatty monk, and some supernatural woods thrown in for good measure – sounds like a recipe for chaos, right? And yeah, it is a little bit crazy at times, but in the best possible way. There are moments where I was genuinely on edge, wondering what kind of shenanigans Barker was going to pull out next (like that archery showdown, for instance). But despite all the craziness, Gods of the Wyrdwood actually has a really solid foundation beneath it. The world-building is top-notch, with this eerie atmosphere that's just begging to be explored. And our forester hero – I don't want to give too much away, but let's just say they're an absolute blast to follow. Barker does a great job of balancing the action and adventure with some genuinely thoughtful themes, like the nature of power and responsibility. All in all, I'm really excited to see where this series goes from here – bring on book 2, I say!

Original Micro-Review: "More like Gods of the Weird Book, amirite? I'm having a hard time describing this book. Supernatural woods, forester with magic, chatty monk, bad guys, archery showdown. Anyway, it's good and I'm looking forward to book 2. ⭐⭐⭐⭐"
