// EXPANDED CRITIQUE

I'm still blown away by Empire in Black & Gold, this fantasy novel that exceeded all my expectations. Shadow's world-building is ridiculously imaginative - I mean, who comes up with stuff like this? It's like he took every fantastical element, threw them into a blender, and hit puree. The result is a richly detailed, vibrant setting that drew me in from the get-go. And the action? Forget about it, it's non-stop! The pace of the story is relentless, with twists and turns around every corner. I loved how the author balanced action with actual character development, too - these aren't cardboard cutouts, they're complex people with their own motivations and backstories. What really sets Empire apart, though, is its refreshing lack of pretentiousness. I mean, it's easy to get bogged down in flowery prose or over-the-top descriptions, but Shadow keeps it real. His writing is concise, coherent, and actually makes sense! No weird sentence structures or made-up words that leave you scratching your head. And please, thank the fantasy gods, no fart jokes! It's a series that genuinely deserves more attention - if you haven't picked up on it yet, grab the next book and get ready to binge-read!

Original Micro-Review: "Phenomenal. Wildly imaginative, creative, and the action is non-stop. Actual sentences and coherent prose and plots without fart jokes! This is a sleeper series you should read now! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"
